Twittering Invesco Field

We're heading over to Invesco Field shortly. Word is the line is huge already. We don't anticipate having internet access and/or power supply so I'm going to be twittering the speech HERE.

Consider this a convention open thread in case we don't post for a while.

Go Barack!

That would make a nice ad. Start off with a "John McCain doesn't think Americans like you would do hard work..."

I am STUNNED that they haven't made an issue out of this.

Calling union members lazy, considering 50 dollars an hour to be working for peanuts, talking down to people, the works.

The guy couldn't remember how many houses he owns.  He considers someone who earn 4 million a year to be middle class.  Hello?????

I feel you there - this corporate sponsorship thing has gotten out of hand.  Hell, I still call it Candlestick Park and the Boston Garden, because "Monster Park" and "TD Banknorth Garden" just aren't right.

Cripes... (none / 0)

I've been flipping between CSPAN and MSNBC - depending on the speech and whether I'm in the mood for punditry or not - throughout the convention.

Watching the spectacle of MSNBC's outdoor set, I have come to an important decision on a critical civil rights issue - one that my libertarian side really wrestled with.

I am now in full support of bullhorn licensing, permits, and background checks/waiting periods.

The 9/11 truther (is that Webster Tarpley?), whose psychosis seems exceeded only by his persistence, has sealed the deal.   I'm also ready to support a platform plank that would make assault and battery against this specific fellow a simple misdemeanor... perhaps a $2 fine.

Is that what that was? LOL!
I was listening to Rachel Maddow on XM (she streams the first hour from MSNBC when she's on the teevee) and then had to switch over to C-span radio (thank god for C-span!!!!), because you absolutely could not hear a word the pundits were saying because of some guy shouting in the background.
Now it makes sense!
Thanks, zonk!

MSNBC's horrible decision to put their coverage outside has made it the most entertaining thing ever. Every 10 minutes, that damn train horn blows. The wind blows and completely screws up Chris Matthews' combover.

Re: Who? (none / 0)

If this is true.

Thank you Senator McCain!!!!

Pick a conservative unknown with no charisma and no foreign policy experience who barely won his last election.

If he says Pawlenty has enough foreign policy experience to be President, it totally undercuts his attack on Obama.

I still think Obama will take Minnesota with Pawlenty on the ticket, so no bonus there.

I might be wrong, i often am, but i think Pawlenty is a really uninspiring pick and therefore very good for Obama.

Re: Who? (none / 0)

Didn't he just win his Gubernatorial race by a few pts when he was running by himself? So i can't see how he pushes McCain over the top.

I really can't see what Pawlenty brings to the ticket, but then i'm not a Republican.

Re: Who? (none / 0)

I would jump for joy if he picks Pawlenty, no one else knows who he is and his max support in MN is 48% would love to see them think they will carry MN, sure maybe it'd be close but MN is at least 52-48% democrat,

I would take those chances anyday, and McCain wastes his Veep that the majority of the country will just be scratching their heads!

and talk about exciting I would love for the world to see Pawlenty give a speech then compare it to joe.

Re: Off Topic But (none / 0)

Not as awesome as Mittens, but I'll still take it... It's an utterly unexciting pick -- and if you've seen Pawlenty taking recent stabs at playing the attack dog, he's... well... he's not good.

He won't swing MN - the best you can say about him (from a GOP perspective) is that he's an evangelical, so maybe a few older evangelicals who might have otherwise stayed home come out... but like I said in Jerome's VP thread earlier today, it wasn't message and man that pumped out that base in 2004 -- it wasn't even swifties.  It was actually old-fashioned shoe leather, grassroots organizing, and block by block GOTV efforts.

McCain simply doesn't have that...

I'm betting all that Pawelenty does is make a few evangelicals unhappy about McCain -- who were going to vote for him anyway -- a little less unhappy about voting for him.

He doesn't have an ounce of charisma, ala Mike Huckabee -- and he most certainly doesn't have a national grassroots org he can tap into.

I was holding out hope for a Mittens EPIC FAIL... but I'll settle for a Pawlenty FAIL.

Re: Twittering Invesco Field (2.00 / 1)

Am I the only person who thinks McCain would have been better off avoiding MLK today. I mean does a guy who consistently opposed state and federal bills to recognize Dr. King with a holiday really want to keep doing things to remind Americans of that?

Awww who am I kidding. The minute you call McCain out on his rejecting a holiday for MLK he will just say something like, "well, my friends, for 5 and a half years I didn't have holidays...in prison."

Pawlenty or Romney (none / 0)

According to politico, GOP representatives were informed that McCain's pick would be "traditional," probably meaning rich white guy.  If this report is true, I think we dodged a real bullet with the Hutchinson possibility and McCain will have made a major mistake by not going with a female veep.

Though McCain is overperforming right now in Minnesota, I see it the same way as North Carolina for Obama; Pawlenty would be equivalent to putting Easley on the ticket and even then, the likelihood of either state flipping without a blowout is small.

As for Romney, I think the Michigan talk is overrated.  Being the son of a popular governor will just invite unfavorable comparisons to the current occupant of the White House.  His strength in the West among Mormons is not to be discounted but I would note that if McCain was actually struggling with Mormons, he was screwed anyway; a pub should be able to win 80% of Mormons with his eyes closed.  I look at Romney or Pawlenty the same way the GOP probably viewed Biden, whether correctly or not...not a game-changer as neither dude would make me sweat very much at all.

Paws would look like a fish (none / 0)

in a debate with Biden; Romney can hold his own substance as I would actually rank him alongside HRC and Biden as the best debaters on substance this election season.  However, the guy is the only guy who you never feel sorry for when he's under attack; he's one of the worst stylistic debaters I have ever seen as Romney was unable to refute McCain's knowing distortion of his record and statements during their primary.

Re: Pawlenty or Romney (none / 0)

Good point - hadn't thought about that...

I think I'd actually worry more about what this means in NV than I would MI.

Still, I'm hoping for Mittens... Pawlenty is really just too blah to be worth much comedy (though, over the last week or so -- he's gotten delightfully loopy on the surrogate trail).

Mittens, though, geez... We'd have to remember really hard to focus on McCain because Mittens is just such a gold mine.

According to gallup, 83% of those who watched her speech gave her good or excellent reviews (take that Sullivan, Josh Green, and TNR skeptics) including a whopping 94% of dems and solid majorities of pubs and indies who tuned in.  Not so polarizing after all eh?
